Streptococcus uberis

This Gram positive coccus is most frequently found in pairs and short chains of spherical cells. Cells are catalase negative and exhibit facultatively anaerobic metabolism. Heat tolerant to 60 C for extended periods, with growth in many strains at 45 C. Found on the skin, udders, and lips of cattle, and in raw milk.  It can be a cause of mastitis in dairy cattle.
